Welcome Baby Henry

Welcome Baby Emerson

Baby Emerson was such a sweetie and so fun to photograph. She is the first baby in this family and it is quite clear that she is already so cherished and adored by her parents. I had a great time hanging out with you, Barry and Allie, congratulations!

Their first "baby" is actually almost a year old... and she is quite curious about this new little person in the house. At one point in the session Emerson was laying on the bed and started crying and Berkley pushed her nose under Emerson's back... I think she was trying to comfort her.

A Sweet Little One

The "Z" Family was so welcoming and warm! I had such a fun time hanging out with them and documenting the growth of their family with their new arrival. She was a very alert, curious newborn so she definitely made us work hard for those "sleepy baby" shots. As you can see, in the end we won. ;) Grandma is in town for a while and it is so clear that she adores her new granddaughter. This is going to be one well-loved little girl. Tomato Plant

This spring I really wanted to grow a tomato plant, as well as some other fresh herbs like basil and mint, so I planted a little garden that could grow in pots on my porch. Everything was going so well and the tomato plant was really flourishing. It grew tall and started to show little yellow blossoms that would become sweet, homegrown, sun-ripened, delicious cherry tomatoes. I watered the plant regularly and it got plenty of sun. Then one day a sad thing happened. Some sort of little green baby inch worms attacked my tomato plant and devoured most of the green leaves and yellow blossoms. I tried to pluck off the inch worms but I seemed to always miss one or two. Less than a week later and there was barely anything left to my tomato plant and various herbs. Last night I had to throw the plants away, but before I did I salvaged the six little tomatoes that had managed to grow amidst the hungry inch worms. I actually ate one of the tomatoes and it was surprisingly bitter. The following photos are to showcase the few tomatoes that grew this summer. Then I got a little carried away and wanted to show how little they are and put them in our wedding rings for a size comparison. The last photo is a quick shot I took of my husband, Brandon. He always encourages me and helps me to laugh... even when my tomato plant died. Thanks for being so wonderful and caring... I'm lucky to have you.

I think it's still early enough in the year that I can try to plant another tomato plant.

Sabrina and Joe said "I do" at the beautiful Aliso Creek Inn located in Laguna Beach. As you can see the view was gorgeous as well as the decor! Katie and Shannon from Simply Exquisite Events helped the whole day run so smoothly. They were great to work with! Sabrina, Joe, and I took photos at lots of great locations... we even made the trip across the street to the beach. Congratulations, Joe and Sabrina! Best wishes for a joyous life together!

Suzie's family is very musical and her three brothers sang an amazing song during their ceremony... and then Suzie sang another gorgeous song, accompanied by the mariachi band, during their reception. Candid Children's Session: Pasadena

WOW! These three kids were so energetic, curious, bright, funny, and adorable that they were a pleasure to photograph in their candid session. The oldest sister started the session when she picked an apple off their apple trees in the yard... I started snapping photos and from that point on there was never a dull moment. The twin brothers followed their sister and enjoyed the apples, which I thought was cute for the photos. I am so glad that their mom told me she likes candid photos more than posed photos, because I am not sure how many posed ones we would have taken. I love how these photos turned out and I really enjoyed spending time with this family in their candid session.

Wedding: Chelsea and Jeremy

Chelsea and Jeremy got married at the Sierra Madre Congregational Church in Sierra Madre. They had their reception in Chelsea's mother's beautiful backyard in Glendora. They worked so hard planning, paid attention to all the details, and planned an amazingly beautiful wedding reception as well as one of the most fun celebrations! Their wedding party and family were great and really helped them celebrate their wedding day with lots of heartfelt laughter and joy. Thank you for the honor of being a part of your wedding day... you guys are great, it's clear that your love goes deep, and your day was so truly beautiful. Congrats again!

Wedding on the Queen Mary: Ellen and Jerry

Ellen and Jerry said "I do" at their church and then celebrated their new marriage with family and friends aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Its clear to see that they are madly in love with each other and really know how to have fun and enjoy life with each other. Ellen's love for vintage style showed up in so many of her wedding details... so I had to enhance a few of their photos with a vintage feel. Thank you for the honor and pleasure of documenting your wedding day!

I love this look of excitement that Ellen gave Jerry during their wedding ceremony.

Jerry and Ellen both restore old cars... it's a long story, but that's actually how they met. The next few photos are of their own cars that they restored. We had to get a couple of photos with them both.

Kaleb is the first baby born to his mommy and daddy and I know he is already so LOVED and ADORED! It was such a pleasure and honor to document him during his first week of arrival while he was still teenie tiny. Congrats Brian and Leila, he is perfect!

Kaleb's nursery was decorated so adorably I had to share a few images in color. The teddy bear mural is incredible!

Baby Portraits: Orange County

Alex is six months old now! Wow! Time has been going by so quickly! I feel like it wasn't that long ago when I photographed him as a tiny newborn. And now here he is smiling, "talking", rolling over, growing, and learning so quickly. I had a great time with Justin, Katie, and Alex this week when we documented Alex's six months of life. I look forward to meeting up with you guys in another six months to document his one year birthday!

Alex thought he was quite funny as he kept rolling over from his tummy to his back. We kept trying to put him on his tummy and he continued to roll onto his back as he was cracking up at himself! I think he was very proud of himself!

His funny sense of humor came out here, too, when he stuck his tongue out at us. I am pretty sure he knew how funny and cute he was!

The Faith Foundation "is shaping the future by setting young leaders on a course for success and giving them a head start in their college career. Each year the Faith Foundation awards scholarships that empower students to pursue higher education at a four-year college or university. Since its inception, the Faith Foundation has awarded more than a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships."

Although I am not directly involved with this organization or church I seek to donate my time and talent for worthy causes. Empowering and shaping young leaders is definitely a worthy cause in my eyes. Recently, I had the privilege of donating a family portrait session to a silent auction fundraiser for the Faith Foundation.

The Leong family is the generous family that won this opportunity for a family portrait session. We had their family portrait session at a few different locations around Pasadena so they could have nature as a backdrop as well as some portraits with an urban feel. Thank you for your generosity towards this cause and it was an honor to meet you and get to spend some time with you!

I think that it is very important to give back to the community in whatever ways that we can, so if you would like me to donate my photography to your good cause, please feel free to contact me and we can talk about the details.

They told me that Huntington Beach is a special place for them and that it has played a big part in their relationship. Ellen and Jerry met up with me in Belmont Shores for their engagement session. They wanted to have their engagement session on Second Street because they really liked the feel of the location. They are friends of a couple whose wedding I photographed back in 2006. I always enjoy photographing weddings for friends of past clients. Ellen told me that she really likes the vintage, retro look (as you can tell by her awesome style sense) so I tweaked a few of the photos to give them that vintage feel. They even had matching Converse! I love it! I am really looking forward to shooting your wedding this May! Thanks again, guys, for a great time and for introducing me to a new shooting location!

Kristy is an actress, so I was really excited to update her headshots. We had a great time shooting in Pasadena. Here are a few of my favorites from the session. Seven day old baby Avery was the perfect model as she slept through the entire newborn photo session! I love documenting newborns through photography because they grow and change so quickly. She will only be this small on the day that I photographed her. I recommend newborn photos be taken within their first week so you will remember exactly what they looked like at the beginning. We're Married!

Brandon and I got married on December 8, 2008 at Temecula Creek Inn! We had a very small, intimate wedding ceremony with family and friends. We decided to see each other before the ceremony so we could take photos with good lighting at that time of day. We are so glad that we did because it helped calm our nerves to see each other beforehand. We had such an amazing day and felt so blessed to be together with each other and surrounded by our loved ones.

The first image is of our first moment together on our wedding day.

Saturday November 15th and Sunday November 16th are reserved for your family Christmas photo session. One Christmas photo day is at a park in LaVerne and the other is in Pasadena with the great architecture of the City Hall as a backdrop.

Each Mini Session is approximately 25 minutes and provides many different candid and posed photos of several different family combinations. Mini sessions are intended for single families up to six people.

This special holiday offer is only $175 and you will receive an online photo gallery to view and order prints a la carte, no minimum order is required. You will also receive one high resolution digital image of your choice to use for your personal Christmas cards. Professionally printed, artistic Christmas cards are available for an additional fee. The Adams family welcomed baby Eli on July 9, 2008! When a new baby arrives they take a family photo wearing shirts that state their individual relationship to the new addition. For example "Eli's Mommy" and "Eli's Daddy." All the grandkids had a group portrait when they were tiny and each family member wore their appropriately titled shirt. We had a great time for their family session and I enjoyed meeting baby Eli!

When Barbra told me they wanted to take some engagement photos in front of H & R Block, I admit that I was a little bit confused. Then she explained that was where she and RC met and he first asked her out on a date. They are a fun, playful, loving, and incredibly creative couple. They wanted to go to a few locations that reflect some important aspects of their relationship. They both practice Krav Maga, a form of martial arts and self-defense... which explains why they wanted engagement photos in their gym! It was really fun and unique and we all laughed a lot during this part of the session. Then we went across the street to the ArcLight Movie Theater and actually were able to grab a few shots inside the theater. They love seeing movies together and wanted that reflected in their session. Of course we still took some other photos along the way when I we came across some beautiful light and backdrops. I am so excited to photograph their wedding on August 29th!

Santa Monica Pier Engagement Session

Frank and Kris met me at the Santa Monica Pier for their engagement session on Monday. The windy weather didn't stop them from playing in the water or riding bikes! Melanie and Mike got married at the luxurious and gorgeous J.W. Marriot Starr Pass Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona a few weeks ago. It was quite a change of pace and setting for the weddings I usually shoot in southern California. It was a wonderful wedding where the happy couple was surrounded by so many loved ones. You really could feel how much all of their guests meant to them and vice versa. I will be posting more images to tell the story of their day, but I will leave you with this one that epitomizes how much their friends and family adore them both!

Shannon Tied the Knot!

Shannon and Kelly got married on April 12, 2008 in Laguna Beach at Tivoli Too. They flew into town from Washington for their wedding since most of their family lives in southern California. They couldn't have picked a better day for a wedding near the beach because the weather was absolutely gorgeous! The couple was friends in high school but each went their own separate ways after graduation. Through the modern magic of technology (aka: the internet) they reconnected and the rest is history! They were both so excited for this day. We had a great time and the whole staff at Tivoli Too was fabulous to work with. They always pay attention to the tiniest detail and know how to throw a fabulous party! Since the couple was from out of state they took care of everything from the flowers to the cake. What a fun bride and groom! Congrats Shannon and Kelly!

Tammy and Darren are an incredible couple! Saturday, May 3rd, they said "I Do" at the beautiful Rancho Capistrano in San Juan Capistrano. They were absolutely in love with each other and the whole day was amazing! They are so good for each other and throughout the day each expressed how blessed they each felt to have "won" the other person. I actually attended Azusa Pacific University with them both so it was fun for me to see some familiar faces at the wedding. Justin and Alyssa met me last night for their engagement shoot at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. After shooting at the observatory we found a hiking trail behind the building to check out. I loved these photos the best, but I will post more of the observatory soon.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hanging out with the Strauss Family. Adam and Iris are really great people and such loving parents! Naomi is eleven months old and so full of energy and fun! I just love some of the shots I got of her being so curious and adorable. She loved the kumquat tree in front of their beautiful house in Los Angeles. As you can tell from a few images she wouldn't put the kumquats down after she picked them... so they were in a lot of the photos. Thanks guys for such a fun time hanging out!

I finally planned a trip out to Colorado to visit my dear friend Kara. Kara lives outside of Denver in a town called Parker. We had such a fun, relaxing, full, funny weekend together (along with her golden retriever Sadie)! Somehow the whole weekend passed and I didn't get one photo of Sadie, so maybe Kara will email me one I can add to this post. If you ever want to feel loved all the time no matter what you do, you should adopt a golden retriever. Each morning I awoke to a dog sighing outside of my bedroom door just waiting for me to wake up. Apparently she enjoys having guests and wants to be with her guests all the time. As soon as I would wake up and open the bedroom door, she would be so excited and wiggly and happy. I couldn't help but smile. :) Kara and I did a lot of fun things... I included photos from out trip to the Crepe place that made the most heavenly crepes ever! We also drove up to Brekenridge and stopped in a few towns on the way up. Overall, I had a great time visiting Kara and Sadie! Thanks guys!

Professional wedding and portrait photographers from all over the world gather together in Las Vegas every March to take classes, see new cameras and gadgets at the tradeshow, network with other photographers, AND view the photographs in the print competition. When I began my pursuit of photography eight years ago, I entered many competitions in the category of black and white fine art photography. The more involved I became with weddings and portraits the less I participated in art shows. This year I decided get back to my photo roots and enter WPPI's 16x20 Awards of Excellence competition in the category of "Engagement." Although this is a completely different type of photo competition for me, I stayed true to my love of black and white photographs. Enjoy the shots below:

I share my birthday with the biggest candy day of the year... yup, you guessed it: Halloween! I see some pretty crazy stuff on my birthday since lots of people dress up in extreme costumes. When I was a kid I often had costume birthday parties. As a kid I have been a bunny, a princess, a pilot (my dad is a pilot), a clown, a vampire, a cowgirl, an 80s prom queen, and most recently a Fanta Girl. It is so much fun, but sometimes I just want to have a birthday without all of the Halloween excitement. I know it sounds weird, but if you have your birthday on a holiday you probably understand. Well, this birthday was one of my favorites. My boyfriend, Brandon, planned out a very special, "non-Halloween" day for us. I have a couple of photos from a few of the highlights. He bought me beautiful roses, took me to the Huntington Library tea room for lunch and a walk though the gardens, took me shopping, took me out to a delicious Italian restaurant (Il Fornaio), and ended the evening with a cozy, relaxing fire in the fireplace. Thank you so much for all the effort you took to plan my birthday!!! I loved it! I also received birthday wishes thoughout the day from emails, voicemails, texts, and phone calls from friends and family and I felt very loved and appreciated. Thank you to all of you who helped make me feel so special on my birthday!

Kelly and her identical twin sister, Kristin, are having baby boys within a week of each other. If that's not cool enough, Kristin's sister-in-law, Casey, is also due soon after! This was one of the most unique and fun maternity shoots I have done. Kelly's little boy, Gavin, even made an appearance for a few photos. If you are interested in having your maternity photos taken 36 weeks is the best time to take them. And I love taking newborn photos too... especially when they are less than two weeks old and still squishy. :) Keep your eyes open to see these three beautiful babies for their photo debut coming soon.

Tyler and Maci got married in San Diego County on October 27, 2007. It was a lovely wedding and you could really tell how much they loved each other. I just loved this weeping willow tree that we took photos in front of... it had great light shining though for the photos. Enjoy!

Carrie is San Clemente girl and she met Chad while she was living in Europe. Chad is Austrailian... and half of the wedding guests flew over to celebrate the occassion! Chad and Carrie were so fun and care-free on their wedding day and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing their wedding and being a part of their day. The first photo is a broach that the bride wore in her hair. It is unique because her mother and grandmother also wore it on their wedding days. They got married at the Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente and had a gorgeous wedding. Thanks guys for having me be a part of one of the funnest, international weddings ever!

October 6th Mark and Viviana said, "I do!" Their wedding was beautiful, the bridal party was so fun, and the day was gorgeous! I loved shooting in downtown Balboa walking along the sidewalks with the couple. It is so fun to see on-lookers reactions and responses to the happy couple. In the first photo the watches were a generous gift to the groomsmen from the groom. The whole day was amazing and ended with a lively party at the Balboa Pavilion complete with a Mariachi band. Congratulations guys!!!

Sequoia National Park

As promised, here are some more photos from my camping trip to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon.

Our tent was in the middle of all the gorgeous scenery.

The park rangers were very serious about storing ALL food in these bear-safe boxes. The idea of a visit from bears kindof scared me, but as you can tell we weren't eaten by bears. :)

"General Sherman is a famous Sequoia Tree in the park. It has the biggest diameter in the whole park. The next photo of Brandon standing on the tile circle shows the actual diameter of General Sherman. It was so impressive and awe inspiring for me to see.

Hume Lake was the perfect place to stop and picnic on our drive over to Kings Canyon ("The Little Yosemite"). There is actually a summer camp at this lake where I was a camp counselor a few years ago. It was so fun to see it again.

Some surprise visitors... should I become a wildlife photographer? No, I don't think so either. :)

This meadow in Kings Canyon was one of my favorite places of the whole trip.

I highly encourage anyone to visit these beautiful locations. I hope that it is as refreshing and renewing for you as it was for me. Enjoy!

I met Mike and Desiree yesterday at Corona Del Mar (which was where they actually got engaged in January). I love shooting in the actual location that the engagement took place because it has so much more significance to the couple. Mike and Desiree are such a fun couple. They made me feel like we were old friends hanging out. During the engagement session we discovered that we went to high schools near each other and we actually knew some of the same people. I am so excited to shoot their wedding at Rancho Capistrano next summer because I know it will be an amazing wedding and they are so great together!

Kim and Elizabeth got married a few weeks ago in Universal City. Elizabeth wore a gorgeous red Chinese-style dress for the family tea ceremony and then changed into her beautiful white gown for the American ceremony. The dragons who showed up at the reception were an exciting surprise! You will notice that the bride and groom have to "appease" the dragons with red envelopes of money so they will bless the marriage. I love the last shot of the couple on the dance floor... when was the last time you saw a Poloroid camera at a wedding?! (Or anywhere really... so funny!)

I went to Brandon's hometown in Georgia and went fishing for my first time ever! In the first photo we are all ready to hop in the pickup truck and head to the pond. It was a gorgeous place and all you could hear was bull frogs and crickets for miles and miles. I loved it! The little country store was on the road back home and I had to stop and take a few photos. Saturday, July 7, 2007 was the most poular wedding day of the century! Jerry and Connie expressed that they felt "Lucky" to have found one another and to spend the rest of their lives together. Their wedding was beautiful and heartfelt. As Connie was getting ready for her big day she received a delivery from her fiance... something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Her "something old" from Jerry was very sweet and touching. It was a small photo of her father to carry on her bouquet to keep his spirit close on her wedding day since he is no longer here. I truly felt "lucky" to witness Connie and Jerry's deep love and thoughtfulness for each other on this very lucky day!

Jerry was so excited to see that his grandmother was able to make it to his wedding.

On June 16, 2007 Carissa and Justin said "I DO!" They got married in Sierra Madre and continued on to South Pasadena to celebrate at their reception. The whole day was so much fun and everyone was really excited to celebrate the occassion. Carissa and Justin are so very clearly in love with each other... and dearly loved by their family and friends. Part of Carissa's heritage is Greek so her family really knows how to celebrate and dance.
